Charles William Bradley papers, ca. 1807-1865.

Notes and notebooks kept by Bradley, primarily in his study of names, but including the study of China. The collection consists primarily of five boxes of notes, drafts and clippings on the etymology of names. One notebook is entitled "Extracts & Original Thoughts, Etymologies, History, etc. of the English language and literature." The other notebook, entitled "Notes on Chinese Subjects," consists of notes on Chinese religion, law, higher institutions of learning, government, literature, social life and customs, etymologies, logography, medical art, productions and manufactures of the provinces, opium, agriculture, and rebellions.
